Three Ways to Grade
Choose a sample, edit the marks, and compare the results.
The school's algorithm
- Each competency calculates a weighted mean of its marks.
- A settings table converts the competency score into a percentage.
- Category weights combine those percentages into the final course percentage.
- The course percentage determines the overall letter grade.
Evidence pattern
- Within each competency: find the most common proficiency family (mode). Do it for all evidence and separately for the latest five.
- Across competencies: choose the most common selected achievement. With custom competency weights, count weighted votes.
- Median safeguard: when there is no clear mode, or a high mode sits at least two achievement steps above the middle, use the median instead.
- Final: compare Most Consistent and Most Recent, keeping the protected-final rule.
- Percentage: E+ = 98%, E = 94%, P+ = 89%.
Percentage band ruler
- Build a weighted numerical position on a seven-point ruler.
- Locate that position inside its associated percentage band.
- The decimal determines how far through that band the student has travelled.
- This model uses a continuous numerical ruler to choose the percentage.
